Bottom Fishing Is Your Best Bet This Weekend

Bottom Fishing Is Your Best Bet This Weekend
As we are in full swing with summer and the heat settles in we find bottom fish our main target. The sea surface temperatures are heating up pushing fish lower in the water column. If you get a chance, I would get set up to spend a day or night trying for bottom fish which include snapper, grouper, porgy and many other species. If you look on your GPS most of the wrecks and rocky bottom will show on your chart. They sure make it easy these days! Most of the time we simply drift around really good bottom structure in search of these snapper or grouper. Most of the time we are using a lead which slides on the main line and a long fluorocarbon leader finished with a circle hook and a fresh live or dead bait. Pictured here is Fred Kaub with two beautiful snowy grouper. These fish were caught in 200 feet of water on rocky bottom. The yellowtail snapper bite has been on fire and the mutton snapper will fire up around the next full moon. Either way bottom fishing is consistent and almost a sure thing right now.

There have been a few wahoo caught this week inside of 300 feet of water and further offshore swordfishing has been excellent. We have seen several fish in the 200-to-300-pound range and the bait of choice this week is bonito.

For up to the minute fishing report tune in to 105.9 the Paul Castronovo Papas Pilar fishing report at 6:20 on Friday morning.

Get tight!
