Collard greens and wahoo!
Pictured here on the left is Max Goski with his first wahoo not only of the year but of his life! 2025 sure is going to be a special year for many people. We hope that everyone catches the fish of their dreams!
We finally got some nice weather over the last couple of days and were able to get out and find a few fish. The bite has been somewhat mediocre across the board as most charter boats picked at blackfin tuna wahoo and occasional mahi-mahi. The swordfishing way offshore slowed down a bit over the last few days but should pick back up next week. The wahoo here in the picture was caught right off of the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse in 160 feet of water. The fish actually ate a bait on the short planer, but we missed him. This fish got greedy and then tried to eat the long planer bait, but he wasn't getting away this time.
A few minutes after boating the wahoo we caught a sailfish in 130 feet of water while trolling. The sailfish actually came up to the squid teaser and pulled on it for a second. There are no hooks in a teaser as it is just to attract fish. We troll the teaser right behind the boat not more than 30 feet back. These fish will swim right up to the back of the boat sometimes. The sailfish then went and ate the first bait behind the boat, and we were able to catch it. It put on quite a show jumping several times. Once we subdued and caught the fish, we released it to be caught again. What a wonderful catch and a great start to the new year!
