Local anglers are blessed with big catches of wahoo, mahi and swords.
Pictured here is a beautiful wahoo we caught the other day while trolling outside of Boca Inlet aboard the "Lisa B". This fish took a bonito strip fished from a planer at 9 knots of speed. Several boats in the area boated fish of similar quality at the same time during the outgoing tide. Mixed into the catches were blackfin tuna and mahi-mahi. There were a few bull dolphin caught inside of 300 feet of water pushing 20 pounds. The weather is very funny right now as one day we will have a small craft advisory at 25 knots and the next day down to 10 kn of wind. This weather keeps fluctuating so be sure to check the weather forecast before going out.
Farther offshore the swordfish bite was excellent as many boats caught, boated and released broadbill swordfish. The best bait this week seems to be the squid tentacle fishes with a darker skirt. One boat out of Boynton Beach caught three swordfish on Tuesday afternoon. If the weather holds through the weekend there will be a Swordfish tournament put on by the Trashcan Slam. Lots of Swordfish anglers are itching to get out there as this is a great time to catch a big swordfish. Check out their Instagram for information on signing up. The weigh will be Saturday afternoon following the fishing at the Lighthouse Point Marina.
