Pictured here is Michael Riley with his first snook capture and release this week. Michael also caught his first tarpon that put on quite a show. This trip began out of Hillsboro Inlet, and we covered about 30 miles in search of Mahi Mahi. Unfortunately, we found absolutely nothing but the guys that stayed much closer in around 600-800 feet of water caught plenty. Farther is not always better! As I have said over the last several weeks do not forget that the snook and tarpon fishing is going off near the inlets and around the beaches in shallow water. These fish that we caught were both caught on pilchards using a sliding 3-ounce egg sinker and a 5/0 circle hook. The best of the nearshore fishing is on the outgoing tide when the water is moving out of the inlet. Usually, you can spot the dirty water coming out as it is usually clean green next to it. The fish like to hang in that dirty brown water. It sure is great when you can end a trip catching a snook or tarpon for your anglers or customers.

With the full moon this week the wahoo bite was excellent. Capt. Eddie Walters out of Hillsboro Inlet caught the beautiful 40lb fish while lots of anglers caught fish pushing the 30lb mark. The kingfish bite was also really good this week with fish caught up to about 15 pounds. Most of the good king fishing was inside of 150 feet and the best tactic was trolling planers. You can catch plenty of kingfish while using live bait but trolling sure helps you locate the school.
