Sailfish were chewing this week, but other pelagic catches remain low.

Sailfish were chewing this week, but other pelagic catches remain low.
Record numbers of sailfish were caught last week in local tournaments. The Buccaneer tournament out of Palm Beach features some of the best sailfish teams on the planet. The leading boat caught 54 sails in three days of fishing. These are serious numbers caught by local anglers from Miami to Palm Beach. Mixed in to the sailfish catches were a couple of giant wahoo with one fish weighing over 100 pounds. As we said last week targeting sails locally is a safe bet and wahoo fishing in the Bahamas has been excellent. Other than that fishing has been just plain slow for almost everything else. Even the swordfish decided to take the week off as local boats put up zeros most of the week. We sure are hoping that fishing gets better soon as lots of anglers are chartering boats and looking to get tight! The old saying "That's why they call it fishing and not catching" is getting too familiar lately.

Pictured here is the Hickman family on one of the weekly Mission Fishin trips aboard the "Lisa B" out of Lighthouse Point Marina (Port 32) at the Nauti Dog restaurant. God blessed us with great weather and smooth seas and a fun time was had by all. If you know any families with special needs that would benefit from a day on the water, please reach out to us at missionfishin.org. You can also volunteer for the program so please email us if you have interest.

Let's go fishing!
