Snapper and big swordfish were the highlight catches this week!

Picture here is me and Josh Davis with a couple of beautiful vermilion snapper. These fish were caught in 200 feet of water on the rolling edge off Hillsboro inlet. You can follow this ledge north and south. If you drive between 175 feet and 225 feet you can usually mark schools of triggerfish and vermilion snapper. Vermilion snapper is one of the most awesome eating in the snapper family. There are also referred to as beeliners. The best rig for these snappers is a chicken rig with 3 to 5 circle hooks in the 2/0 range size. We usually tip each hook with squid and or bonito as bait. At the bottom of the rig, we usually fish a 6 ounce to 12-ounce lead depending on the current. Simply lay the rig on the bottom in the sand and if they are there you should get bit relatively quickly.

Farther Offshore the swordfish bite was hit or miss but the fish caught were very big. John Michael Lavergne and Kenny out of Hillsboro Inlet caught a fish over 400 pounds on Tuesday. A 500-pound swordfish was caught by Capt. Ryan Goldman last week. You'll have to take your chances this time of the year because the big ones are here. There are not a lot of fish being caught but the ones that are really quality.

The weather looks beautiful so get out and go fishing!
