Pictured here is Eric Finkelstein with a beautiful wahoo caught a few days back as the storm went by outside east of the Bahamas. Anytime we have a storm we noticed that the fishing can get really good right after as the seas turn up. That storm was so strong that the swell was actually pushing through the Bahama chain of islands south of our area. Usually, we notice sea conditions change once the storm is north of Walker's Cay. Lots of anglers enjoyed catching wahoo between 20 and 40 pounds over the last several days. Mahi-mahi fishing has been excellent both near shore and offshore and this trend should continue through the weekend. We have not had much rain which actually can help the wahoo fishing on the outgoing tide as the freshwater comes out of the inlet creating edges filled with debris. The best of the bite has definitely been first thing in the morning during the three hours between 7 AM and 10 AM. Midday conditions have deteriorated fishing conditions as the temperatures are pushing 90 to 95 degrees. For the weekend, look for floating debris, both near shore and well offshore as the storm has definitely had an effect on land south of us. The Gulfstream current will be taking floating debris near our area, and the mahi fishing should be excellent.
