Early this week we traveled to Puerto Rico to fish with a fellow sword fishermen named Paco Vela. We had been exchanging fishing techniques over the phone but we decided that it would be more effective to fly down to the island and fish for a few days to put ideas to work. Local fishermen Rich Clawges and Jeff Wilson from the boat Titan Up made the trip with me. We figured that if we made the trip then we might as well put on a sword fishing seminar while we were at it. We were to fish 2 days and give the seminar on the final day.
We left the dock Thursday morning at 9am and traveled two miles to the fishing grounds. We hooked our swordfish at 10am and fought it until midday before boating the largest swordfish caught on a rod in Puerto Rico history. The fish weighed 635.5lbs. We gave the seminar on Saturday and flew home Sunday. This experience still has not sunk in.
The Signup for the Sunburn Swordfish 8 will be next Friday at the Lighthouse Point yacht and racquet club. Call us at the shop or go to RJ Boyle Studio on Facebook for details.
