Over the last few days the wind and sea from Cristobal has kept most fishermen at the dock. The boats that did venture out offshore were seasoned crews who don't mind the big seas. La Nena out of Lighthouse point fished yesterday around 20 miles offshore and caught some nice dolphin in the 15lb range. They have been fishing all week and say that the dolphin fishing has been consistent the whole time. La Nena also boated a swordfish yesterday just under 100 pounds. What we will notice now that the seas have calmed down is better near shore fishing. The snapper bite should really heat up this weekend after most of the silt from the surf has diminished. Some of the best days near shore happen a couple of days after a storm. It is if the fish stop biting as the storm approaches ( even if the storm is 200 miles offshore). The fish sense the change in the barometric pressure and stop feeding on a dropping barometer. Once the storm has moved on and the weather stabilizes the fishing really starts to heat up. Give it a go this weekend!! Stay up to date on the bite by calling us at the shop for a fish report.
