DON'T FREAK OUT

Happy New Year to Everyone!!!

2013 was an awesome year filled with great catches in our local waters. We saw record numbers of wahoo being caught around the moon in august and september. Big swordfish were again a staple on the dock of many big game hunters and snapper bite was good almost all year. On the flip side the dolphin bite was really almost non existent throughout the whole year and the sailfish bite was down as well. Kingfish numbers were also down.

There is always that negative angler coming into the tackle shop complaining that we killed all of the fish. He complains about commercial fishermen as well as recreational anglers that don't abide by the laws. I tell this guy the same thing I have told him for the last 20 years.

Stop being so negative, its probably gonna be great next year. You have to remember that the ocean is very large and fish have the ability to swim outside of the fishing zones that we target on a regular basis. Just because we didn't catch them doesn't mean that there numbers are going down. As a commercial fishermen visiting fish houses I have first hand knowledge of what is being caught where. What you start to notice as a fish seller is that different locations along our coast seem to produce more numbers of fish than other fishing zones. Migrational patterns of fish change due to weather and bait migration. This week the king fishing may be terrible in Pompano but the kingfish bite off St. Augustine is at an all time high.

Don't always listen to that negative crap and jump on that bandwagon. The sun will come up tomorrow and the fishing is going to be great!!!!

Happy New Year
