The fishing was relatively slow most of the week and the sea conditions were a bit rough. Sailfish was the main target for most boats fishing near shore this week. Most boats targeting sails caught 2 to 5 fish per trip. These are good numbers but should pick up with the next cold front. Father offshore the swords were biting and this seems to be consistent with the pattern over the last three years. January and February are some of the best months for giant fish. We did have one story of a fish that was lost that was pushing the 1000 pound mark. The crazy thing in swordfishing is no matter how long you have done it, you cannot target a certain size fish. The giant fish hooked earlier this week out of Lighthouse Point was fought for five hours before breaking the line.
