This last Saturday was the first year of the Swordfish Cup. Fly Navarro who runs the Blue Marlin World Cup put on the event. 23 teams competed for this winner take all format. The winner of this tournament would be the boat capturing the biggest swordfish. The minimum weight for a qualifying fish was set at 200lbs.
Teams competed from the Cayman Islands, Mexico, St. Martin, Aruba, Dominican Republic, the Gulf of Mexico which included Destin and Galveston and Florida. It was so exciting as boats were calling in from all locations with fish being caught.
The Titan Up and Capt. Jeff Wilson went 5 for 5 in the Gulf and the Cayman boys caught 4.
The Destin team "Duke" tagged 3 and killed one. The "Nautilus" caught 2 swords.
Ellie B caught several fish 52-55 inches. The Boat "Alina" went 3 for 3 out of Aruba. All vessels out of Mexico were tight on fish but no weighers. Some really nice fish were weighed.
