Wahoo Are Biting in the Bahamas Already
Pictured here is Nick Noon with a 50 pound wahoo caught off of Bimini a few days back. Several boats made the trip and came back successful. The conditions over the weekend were perfect with the light northeast wind switching to northwest blowing bait up onto the bank near Bimini. I would consider the bite somewhat early this year. There are definitely bigger fish in the Bahamas when compared to our waters out front of Hillsboro Inlet. The average Bahama fish is around 35 pounds. Most of the wahoo we catch here are in the 20 to 25 pound range. All of the fish caught this weekend were caught on high-speed Wahoo Trolling Lures. Most guys are fishing around 12 to 14 kn over ground.
Closer to home the wahoo bite is still good with some smaller fish around. The overall bite for pelagics and snapper was a bit off and will probably stay that way another week. The water is changing with the change of the season.Â
The beach fishing on the mullet schools is excellent right now with snook tarpon and sharks mixed in.Â
Stay safe!
