Digging For Gold Off Hillsboro Inlet!

Digging For Gold Off Hillsboro Inlet!

Pictured here are two very happy anglers with a pair of golden tilefish. These beauties were caught aboard the "Lisa B" a few days back while fishing the bottom. John and Theresa Fichtelman are regulars aboard our charter boat and wanted to try something different. John actually makes fishing rods and asked us if he could bring his own rod that he made to test out. Captain Mark Danley obliged and put them on the honey hole out and around 800 feet of water. The golden tilefish is one of the best eating bottom fish that you can catch on the planet. These fish can be tricky to catch as they really like to burrow down in the mud. Most of the time you must leave your rig completely on the bottom to get a bite. These fish rarely come off the bottom even a few feet to eat a bait. These fish were caught on fresh slabs of skipjack tuna fished from a circle hook.

The sailfish bite is still excellent, and the wahoo bite is actually still really good even though the moon is not near full. One of the things you might want to give a shot is the mutton snapper fishing. We have seen several fish over 15 pounds caught this last week. Don't be afraid to put out a bottom rod if you are kite fishing this weekend. The best bait for a big mutton is a live ballyhoo or goggle eye fished from a fluorocarbon leader with a circle hook.
