The local fishing has been consistent the last few days. Trolling and live bait fishing has yielded some nice catches of wahoo, tuna and bonito out to around 400 feet of water. Early in the week we had a serious 5 knot north current which is rare for inshore fishing. We have not seen this much current in several years. When the current subsided back to a standard 2 knots the fishing picked up. We had some rainy conditions early in the week which gave us a dirty water outgoing tide line. You can actually see the greenish brown water lined right up against the blue ocean water. If you see this tide line don't be afraid to troll or drift live bait in the cleaner blue just on the outside. This is a great place to pick up a wahoo or a few kingfish. The blackfin tuna will also hang around these tidal flows.

Local angler and friend John Abreau had a really nice catch of yellowtail snapper and bottom fish this week. John fishes several days a week and concentrates his efforts this time of the year between 75 and 100 feet of water on the bottom. Mangrove snapper and mutton snapper catches are increasing around this full moon. The yellowtail snappers have been biting best while anchored with a north current and at night. The best of the bite really starts when the sun has gone completely away. Small jigs tipped with squid, bonito or silversides are the go-to baits for yellowtail.

We have had such hot weather that mid-day fishing has been a struggle. The fish have a tendency to slow feeding a bit and move deeper in the water column. I would suggest fishing in the early morning hours and the late afternoon into the evening.
