Expect a Holiday Wahoo After the Full Moon
Pictured here is a nice wahoo caught aboard the "Lisa B" for the McCarthy family earlier this week. This was one of two fish caught on a morning trip.
The bite this weekend should be great for wahoo as we are coming off the full moon. A few days before and after the full is the best for most pelagic species of fish. The water quality is cleaning up after the rainy week last week and the cold front should make for great fishing conditions. The sailfish bite should be excellent with this cold snap. If your dream is to catch a sailfish, then this weekend could be your time. Keep an eye out for color changes and current edges. If you happen to see these edges it is best to set up on the offshore side of the edge. Sails love to travel along the current and color changes. Fishing with a kite and live bait will be the best technique for billfish here off Hillsboro inlet. The local marinas sell live bait.
The swordfish bite was good this week with several fish landed in the 150lb range. The best of the fishing was in 1,700 feet of water and the bait of choice was an American eel with a 10/0 stainless hook. You will need to keep an eye the weather if you are going offshore as the gulf stream has been kicking up most of the week.
