Great Wahoo Fishing Continues Here but Bahamas is Slow.
Pictured here are three really nice sized wahoo that we caught earlier this week. It is absolutely crazy to see the bite stay as good as it has for so long for this specific pelagic fish. Believe it or not this is really the time when the Bahama wahoo fishing heats up but this year it’s not really the case. Lots of boats traveling to the Bahamas have struggled immensely to put wahoo in the boat while high speed trolling. We have had a lot of anglers getting skunked after making the trip over to Bimini and or West End.
The fishing is actually much better here on our coast with catches like the one above. Planer fishing has been the ticket to catch the wahoo here. I would highly suggest purchasing a local card for wreck location on your plotter. We have had huge success bouncing from wreck to wreck in search of bait schools that will ultimately hold wahoo. You really need to be set up with the correct tackle to be able to get the bite.
We actually use monofilament flourocarbon and not wire to catch these fish. You may get bit off a few times but it seems as if you do not get as many bites with wire leader. We use a crystal sea which and an extra long bonita strip as bait. Our trolling speed is around 9 knots.
Wahoo is one of the best eating fish in the ocean and can be eaten raw as sushi. One of the biggest mistakes in the kitchen is that people overcook wahoo.
Stay healthy this year!
