Grouper Fingers On the Menu This Week

Grouper Fingers On the Menu This Week
Pictured here is a yellow edge grouper we caught from a few days back out of Marathon Florida. We took a trip down to do some bottom fishing and get a change of scenery. The bottom fishing in the keys is better than it is here but we have lots of grouper still off our coast. Most of our groupers are gag and black grouper and the season is open. Most of the grouper will be caught around wrecks. The wrecks will mark on your chart and you can simply drive to them and fish. Years ago standard charts in a GPS did not show bottom structures or wrecks. The best bait for grouper is definitely live bait such as blue runners and pinfish bit a fresh bonito or barracuda slab will do the trick.
The Mahi-Mahi fishing really picked up this week with anglers catching fish up to 25 pounds. The best of the bite was in 1500 feet of water on large patches of seaweed. Because of the amount of seaweed it is best to run to the different patches looking for bait underneath the edges. If you see bait or life you will probably catch the mahi but some of this seaweed will be vacant of fish for sure.
Tuna and kingfish are still biting nearshore and the swordfish bite will probably slow a bit around the full moon this weekend.

Get tight out there!
