It's Time For The Giant Kingfish To Move Into Our Waters!

It's Time For The Giant Kingfish To Move Into Our Waters!
Last weekend they had a record catch of sailfish in the Sailfish Challenge tournament. Anglers were greeted with perfect conditions for sails and over 500 fish were caught in a two day span by 60 boats. What a great tournament it was as boats went head to head fighting for top prizes. The sails were on the move all last week as record numbers kept pouring in. Several boats caught 20-30 fish in one day! The bite has subdued a bit, but this is still a great time to catch a sailfish.

This is also the time of the year when the giant kings move in. Believe it or not we caught this fish in 15 feet of water on a live goggle eye in the Jimmy Johnson Fishing tournament. The Jimmy Johnson is right around the corner so keep an eye out for the big kings near the beach. We used to see fish of 60 to 70 pounds caught in that shallow water when they were feeding on spanish mackerel which were migrating down the coast. As cycles come and go we still make it a point to look on the beach for these big schools. The only way to catch the giants is really only with live bait. Also if you do find the mackerel you can catch them with lighter spinning tackle and then use them as live bait.
The snapper bite is still really good as the mutton and yellowtails are abundant. Try not to use too much chum as the sharks have been bad.

Good luck out there!
