Mahi-Mahi On the Reef and Swords Offshore!
We had an awesome group of guys from the University of Notre Dame that put up a solid catch of mahi-mahi. The Patterson charter fishes aboard our boat every spring break and seem to get lucky every time! After the trip they bring their fish to the "Fish Shack" in Lighthouse Point as the restaurant does a catch and cook program. If you get a chance stop by this restaurant for excellent seafood. What is really cool is that all of the fish were caught really close to shore. We did not have to travel offshore and burn tons of fuel to find these fish. All of these fish were inside of 250 feet of water. This weekend with the southeast wind should be productive for mahi.
We also got lucky on a big swordfish this week! The bait of choice was a squid tentacle, and the magic depth was 1650 feet of water. We fished all day and were ready to pick up lines when we finally got the bite at 4 o'clock. Karl Rinkenberger and his mom were here from out of town and didn't go home skunked. Karl called me the day after the trip to let us know how great the fresh swordfish tasted!
It's been a great week and should be an excellent weekend!
