Santa is Bringing Sailfish and Snapper!

Santa is Bringing Sailfish and Snapper!
Santa may be bringing a little something special this year when it comes to fishing. Sailfish are on the move and being caught right out front of Hillsboro Inlet. We have had tons of wind lately and that is generally a good sign for sails. We saw people fishing with kites all week and using live bait to target these pelagics. The best of the bite was around 160 feet of water and live goggle eyes fished from the kite was the best technique. One thing I can tell you is that most people forget to put out a bottom rod while they are sitting there drifting live baits. Please don't be afraid to drop down a live bait with a 4-to-6-ounce lead and a long fluorocarbon leader for a snapper. Captain Art Sapp a board "Native Son" caught a few nice snappers this week while fishing for sails. At the end of the 50lb fluorocarbon leader use a 5/O circle hook for best results.
The wahoo bite was a bit off this week after all of the wind and rain was over. A lot of the freshwater created a silty grayish looking ocean close to the shore. That body of water should move out of here and we should be greeted with good fishing conditions for the weekend.
Chris Huff from Lighthouse Point caught a nice swordfish way offshore this week. The fish weighed around 150lbs and was one of the two bites that he had. If you are going to venture offshore for swordfish make sure to check the weather and understand that if we have a northeast wind, the ocean is going to be much larger offshore than it seems from the beach.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to All
And To All Let's Stay Tight!!!!!
