Spanish Mackerel Time

Spanish Mackerel Time

Pictured here is Ron Pope left with first mate Abie Raymond aboard Bouncers Dusky earlier this week. The boat was anchored up in 60 feet of water and chumming small pilchards when a huge school of mackeral showed up. Bouncer said  you could catch one on every cast. This is the time of the year when mackeral travel through our area.

If you get a flat calm day with the wind out of the west cruise near the beach in 15-20 feet of water and at times spot them in the clear water. As you can see in the picture here Ron was catching them on fly but we generally slow troll Clark spoons and jigs.

You will love it if you’ve never done it! They are great eating fresh as well!

Get tight!
