Taking a Bahamas Trip Now is a Great Idea!

Taking a Bahamas Trip Now is a Great Idea!

Pictured here is a huge mahi-mahi from earlier this week. The fish was caught off of Elbow Cay in the Bahamas. It's not often that you see mahi-mahi this size but what is even crazier is that there were several other fish right about the same size caught during the tournament last weekend. A few boats made the trip over from our coast to fish in the Production/Custom billfish tournament put on by Capt. Skip Smith from Lighthouse Point, Florida. This was the nicest and most well-done tournament that I have ever been a part of. 57 of the best boats and crews entered the tournament with hopes of catching marlin. At days end, the "Marlin Darlin" and the "Reel Deel" ended up with top honors. Capt. Kobe Dobbelear from Deerfield boated a 503lb marlin. If you have the time to sneak away, now would be a great time to fish over in the islands as mahi-mahi, white marlin, yellowfin tuna and blue marlin are all biting. We will see the big mahi continue to bite for may be another 30-60 days and then it will taper off a bit.

Locally the blackfin tuna and sailfish bite was on fire for the entire week. Be sure to bring plenty of energy as the seaweed is pretty bad.

Pictured here is Sandy Bass with Mahi Mahi.

Pictured with marlin left to right is Brody and Kobe Dobbelear.
