Wahoo Bite is Back
This week we caught three wahoo on three separate trips aboard the “Lisa B”. Most of the time we are fishing planers targeting wahoo as well as anything else that will bite a bit deeper like kingfish and tuna. The picture show here is a long time great customer of our Mark Tsurkis with a big wahoo he caught while hi-speed trolling lures this week. Hi-speeding has become popular around the full moon.
You see boats cruising at speeds up to 16 knots in search of a big wahoo. There is no bait used here, just lures like the one you see in the picture which happens to be a favorite color for wahoo which is pink and blue. The lure used here is an Islander lure combined with a few extra skirts to give it body. One thing I can tell you is that the bite from a wahoo going 16 knots is one of the most epic bites in fishing. The clicker on the reel starts screaming as line melts off the reel. Hi-speeding is something you should try so give us a shout and we can get you hooked up.
Blackfin tuna have also been around with fish up to around 10 pounds. Most of the blackfin have been caught in 285 feet of water trolling around 9 knots. Try using a dark color small squid skirt daisy chain fished way back in the clean water behind the boat. The tuna get spooked by the boat so fished your lines far out.
Get tight!
