We are Gathering Again!
Finally the Mission Fishin’ Special Needs Program is back at it! We had a spectacular land-based event at the Hillsboro Inlet Park. The kids and families were sure ready to fish even though the wind was blowing about 20 knots. It’s been a really tough time for siblings and parents of special needs during this virus time. They are used to having schedules outside of the house where activities occupy some of the time.
Being locked down has been brutal as I am sure you may have heard stories of caregivers losing it with needs kids. There has been several violent incidents and it is so sad. It was great to go fishing again!
From land we caught snapper, parrot fish and grunts during the outing and lost some bigger fish that we will catch next time. Most of the fish we caught on cut squid but the nicer sized snapper preferred the live shrimp. We were using Owner 1/0 circle hooks with a sliding lead as our rig.
If you would like to help volunteer for our next outing please let us know.
